The Visitors Times Report
The Visitors > Times report offers multiple charts that provide insights on the hours and days that visitors are accessing your site, in both your site’s time zone and their local time zone.
Access the Times report from the Visitors menu in the main menu of the Matomo dashboard.
The report shows when your site is visited and this can help inform your content scheduling, customer service availability, and marketing strategy. When reviewing time-based reports, it’s important to note that if two trends or events seem to happen at the same time or follow similar patterns, it does not necessarily indicate that one is causing the other.
For example, if you see that both sales and website traffic increases at the same time, it does not mean one event caused the other. Marketing campaigns, seasonal trends, or other events may be influencing factors.
The different types of Times reports available are detailed below.
Visits per Local Time Report
The Visits per local time report can help you pinpoint when your website experiences the most traffic, events, sales or conversions. By understanding the peak visiting hours, you can determine the best times to launch new campaigns or marketing initiatives to maximise engagement and drive sales.
While viewing this report, hover your mouse over any of the chart’s bars to reveal the exact number of visits within that time band, including the percentage of overall visits. You can customise the data plotted on the chart by clicking on the line chart icon to select the metrics you want to plot such as Visits and Actions.
- Visits refers to the number of people visiting within that period.
- Actions includes events such as downloads, searches on your site and other web events initiated by your website visitors.

Visits by Day of the Week (Related Report)
In the Visits per local time report, click the related report link to load an alternative report view for Visits by day of the week.
With this report, you can see which days are most popular with your audience. Some examples of how you might use this information include scheduling website updates for times that typically see less visits, or planning to send marketing messages when your visitors are most likely to be online.
Visits per Hour in the Site’s Timezone Report
The Visitors > Visits per hour in the site’s timezone report is useful to understand how many visits your site receives on average throughout the day. As this is based on your website’s time, it can be especially helpful for things like scheduling website maintenance for times with low visitor numbers.
You can also click on the line chart icon to select several other metrics to display in the report.
The exact metrics that are available in this chart may vary depending on the specific configuration of your Matomo instance.
