Build the future
of ethical analytics
Analytics powers some of the most important decisions organisations make.
At Matomo, we’re proving that organisations shouldn’t have to choose between powerful insights, innovation, and control of their data. We look for people who want to own problems — not just complete tasks. People who think independently and are willing to be responsible for the outcome. Whether you’re in engineering, product, customer success, marketing, partnerships, or operations — you’ll help shape the future of analytics.
Remote-first. Globally distributed. Purpose-driven.
Why Matomo Exists
Most analytics companies optimise for data extraction
We don't.
The Internet Runs on Data
Analytics helps organizations understand what works, improve digital experiences, and make better decisions.
But over time, the ecosystem has shifted toward centralization—where data is collected, stored, and controlled by platforms, rather than the organizations that generate it.

The Trade-off
For years, organisations had to choose:
Insight or Privacy. This trade-off created growing concerns around trust, privacy, and digital sovereignty.
A Different Path
Matomo was built to remove that compromise.
We believe analytics should empower organisations — without compromising the rights of individuals.

The Vision
Powerful analytics and strong privacy can coexist.
Today, organisations around the world rely on Matomo to build trust with their users while making better decisions.
Matomo is more than a company
It is part of a global movement toward ethical analytics and data sovereignty
Matomo exists within an
ecosystem of:
- open source contributors
- developers
- customers
- partners
- privacy advocates
Together, we are shaping a digital ecosystem where organisations gain insights — while keeping full control of their data.
You’re not just joining a team. You’re contributing to a shift in how the web works. Open source is not a feature. It’s how we build.
What we believe
What guides everything we build
Our Belief
Everyone has the right to:
- data sovereignty
- privacy
- meaningful analytics insights
Organisations should not have to give up control of their data to understand their performance.
Our Vision
An open digital world built on trust — where privacy and insight coexist, where data remains under the control of those who create it, and where individuals and organisations can confidently make decisions without compromising their ownership, security, or values.
Our Mission
To build, together with our global community, the leading ethical open digital analytics platform — giving organisations full control of their data and the reliable insights they need to make better, more responsible decisions.
Our Ambition
We believe the future of analytics requires more than privacy. It requires innovation, technical excellence, and a commitment to helping organisations make smarter decisions.
How we work, in practice
We do the right thing
We prioritise decisions that protect trust and long-term value — even when they are harder.
We are open
We document decisions. We explain our reasoning. We challenge ideas — not people.
We are ourageous, not careless
We act with autonomy in ambiguous situations — and take responsibility for the outcomes.
We are remote, not distant
We work globally, but we communicate with clarity, intent, and respect.
We play as a team
We support each other, recognise great work, and share learning openly.
We have impact
We ship things that matter to the people using them.
Working here
What it feels like to build at Matomo
Ownership
You don’t receive tasks. You own problems end-to-end — from understanding the need, to building the solution, to improving it in production.
Responsibility
Decisions have consequences. You are trusted to make them — and expected to explain them.
Craft
We care about how things are built. Code quality, system design, and long-term thinking are part of the job — not optional extras.
This environment is built for people who want to think and be accountable for what happens next.
Our principles
How we build and operate
A set of principles that guide how we build, collaborate, and grow — from product decisions to daily work.
Data-informed. We measure and improve.
We collaborate through clarity, documentation, and trust.
We experiment, learn quickly, and continuously improve.
Privacy and ethics guide every decision we make.
We build with the user in mind - not just the feature.
Secure, scalable, privacy-first software.
A different way to work
Most companies say they trust their people. Matomo is structured around it.
Remote-first isn’t a policy we added when the world changed – it’s how we’ve worked since the beginning. That means we’ve had to build something most companies never get around to: genuine documentation culture, async-first processes, and an environment where people can do deep work without being interrupted by a meeting that should have been a message.
Learning is continuous here - not aspirational.
Every team member has unlimited access to Udemy and Kobo, a personal learning budget, and paid certifications. We review learning goals every quarter so development doesn’t get buried under delivery.
Flexibility is real, not performative.
We work across time zones with flexible hours, no Friday afternoon meetings, and five weeks of annual leave. Home office setup is supported, co-working space is covered where applicable, and we protect work-life balance through policy, not just intention.
Wellbeing is built in.
An Employee Assistance Programme, health insurance in selected countries, pet bereavement leave, and volunteer days. These aren’t perks bolted on – they reflect how we think about the people doing the work.
We come together intentionally.
Quarterly in-person regional meetups exist precisely because we work remotely. When we do gather, it means something.

A week at Matomo
We don't wait for incidents. We decide what matters.
Monday starts with reviewing priorities across security, infrastructure, and compliance. The team monitors emerging threats, evaluates ongoing projects, and tracks industry developments that could impact customers and systems. Tickets are triaged, ownership is assigned, and the week’s focus is set proactively — ensuring the team stays ahead of risks rather than reacting to them.
Tools in use: Slack, Jira, Confluence, internal security tooling
Building alignment across a remote company — and a global partner network.
Tuesday is focused on partnerships and collaboration. The team aligns on priorities, connects with partners across time zones, and helps agencies and customers succeed with Matomo. Insights from partner conversations are shared across Product, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Experience, ensuring feedback quickly turns into action.
Remote work succeeds when information flows freely and ownership is shared. Tuesday is where that’s put into practice.
Tools in use: Jira, Slack, HubSpot, Magentrix, Confluence, Claude
Two-week sprints. Real problems. Full ownership.
Engineering works in two-week sprints, starting with planning, prioritisation, and team alignment. By midweek, developers are deep into building, collaborating asynchronously, and solving problems across multiple projects. Every team member owns their work end-to-end — from understanding the problem to delivering and improving the solution.
The work is distributed, but accountability is individual. No one is waiting to be told what to do next.
Tools in use: Jira, Slack, GitHub, Claude, Codex, Confluence, Productboard
Thursday is when the week earns its keep.
Thursday is dedicated to reviewing performance, campaign results, and team priorities. The Marketing team evaluates what’s working, identifies opportunities for improvement, and aligns on the initiatives that matter most for the weeks ahead.
In a remote team spread across time zones, that shared clarity isn’t just useful. It’s how the work stays coherent from one week to the next.
Tools in use: Matomo Analytics, HubSpot, Jira, Slack
No Friday afternoon meetings. But our customers are covered — 24 hours a day, five days a week, across every time zone.
Friday focuses on customer success and continuous improvement. The team reviews key support metrics, customer feedback, and usage insights to identify opportunities for improvement. Those learnings are shared across Product and Engineering, helping ensure future decisions are driven by real customer needs.
The best decisions come from combining data, experience, and direct customer insight. Friday is how that loop gets closed.

How we hire
We don't look for perfect answers
We hire people who take ownership, think in systems, and care about impact.
The exact process may vary depending on the role, but most hiring journeys include the following stages:
First conversation
1-3 days
A first discussion with Talent and/or the hiring team. We explore your motivations, communication style, mindset and what you want to own next.
For technical roles, there might be an online assessment before kicking off this process.
Deep dive discussion
60 minutes
A conversation around your experience, decisions, and judgement.
We discuss real problems and how you approach them in a collaborative way.
Practical challenge
60 minutes
Depending on the role, it can be a technical exercise, a take-home challenge, a live coding, a case study, a writing exercise, a presentation. You work through a realistic scenario — focusing on reasoning, decisions and trade-offs. We care about how you approach the problem — not only the final answer.
Final conversation
90 minutes
A final alignment discussion with leadership and/or the broader team.
We decide together if this is the right place for you to build.
You will always know what we are evaluating — and why.
We hire owners who think in systems and care about impact
If you want to build meaningful technology – and take responsibility for it – we’d like to hear from you.

FAQ
We operate as a remote-first company with a globally distributed team. We hire across regions and collaborate across time zones. There is no single office or central location. Today, most of our team is distributed betwene Europe and NZ with outliers in Asia and North America.
For most roles, no. Some positions may have location requirements due to team structure or market focus – this will always be specified in the job description.
We hire globally. For roles that require relocation or specific work eligibility, we provide supportwhere applicable and depending on the role. Details are shared during the hiring process.
We work asynchronously by default. Most collaboration happens through documentation, written communication, and recorded updates — so teams can move forward without waiting on a shared time zone. We’re also deliberate about live meetings. Global gatherings like All Hands run twice — once in European hours, once in New Zealand hours — so the time cost is shared, not carried by one region. Where real-time meetings are needed, we schedule within overlapping windows. Friday afternoons are meeting-free for everyone.
Our process is designed to understand how you think and work.It typically includes: an intro conversation, a deep dive into your experience, a system challenge based on a real scenarioa final conversation to decide together if it’s the right fitYou will always know what we are evaluating at each step
We look for people who combine expertise with ownership. Successful Matomo team members are often:
- Curious and continuous learners
- Strong problem-solvers
- Solution-oriented
- Comfortable working autonomously
- Collaborative and respectful
- Adaptable in changing environments
- Positive and proactive
- Able to balance innovation, customer needs, and compliance requirements
Most importantly, we value people who care about making meaningful contributions and helping their teammates succeed.
We rely on tools that support async work and clarity. This includes documentation platforms, version control systems, communication tools, and analytics (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Slack, Confluence, JIRA) — adapted to each team’s needs.
Every new team member follows a structured onboarding journey designed to help them understand our product, customers, culture, security practices, and ways of working. During your first months, you’ll: * Follow role-specific learning pathways * Meet key colleagues across the organisation * Learn our security, compliance, and privacy standards * Gain a deep understanding of the product and customers * Begin contributing meaningful work with support from your manager and teammates We focus on impact, not activity, and you’ll have explicit expectations from day one.
Through real responsibility, not courses alone. That said, we back it with concrete resources: unlimited access to Udemy and Kobo, a learning budget, paid training and certifications, and quarterly goal reviews to make sure growth doesn’t get deprioritised by day-to-day work.
