- Disabling unused features like heatmaps or site search
- Filtering out bots and internal traffic
- Sampling visits (for high-traffic sites)
- Removing redundant tags in Matomo Tag Manager.
These steps help reduce unnecessary data collection and are often the fastest way to lower your usage.

How do I manage my overage alert notification settings?
You can manage your overage alert preferences in your personal settings.

Navigate to Matomo settings
> Personal > Settings > Quota Usage Notifications (User)

From here, you can enable or disable the following options:
- Send me an email when hits quota is nearly exceeded
- Send me an email when there is hits overage projected
- Send me email reminders for overage and projected overage
These notifications help you stay informed about your data usage, so you can take action before exceeding your quota. If you’re unsure which notifications to enable, we recommend activating all alerts, which you can adjust later as needed.
