How to track Form Submissions as Goal Conversions in Matomo
From version 5.1.0 of the Forms Analytics plugin, you can track form submissions as goal conversions. Form submissions often represent key actions such as signing up or requesting contact. Tracking them as goals helps you measure performance and improve funnel analysis and conversion tracking.
When configuring form tracking in Matomo, you can optionally associate each form with a specific goal. This allows you to record a conversion whenever the form is successfully submitted and view form-based conversions in your Goal reports.
You can also assign multiple forms to the same goal if they contribute to the same objective, for example, tracking all lead generation forms across your site.
For Matomo On-Premise, ensure the Forms Analytics plugin is active. For Matomo Cloud, Forms Analytics is enabled by default.
- To track a form submission as a goal, go to Matomo > Forms > Manage Forms.
- Open an existing form to edit or click Create New Form and set up the form as required.
- In section, 4) Track a goal (Optional) in the form settings page, select the goal you want to associate with the form.
- If you do not wish to track a goal, leave the dropdown empty. Goal tracking is only applied if a specific goal is selected.
- You can further refine tracking in section, 1) Track interactions in this form when any of these criteria match in the form settings page. If the form name does not match the configured criteria, the goal will not be triggered, even if the form is submitted.
- Save the form.
After submitting the form, verify that the goal conversion is recorded by checking the Visitor Profile or Visit Log reports.
Confirm that the goal appears as a successful conversion, indicating that the form interaction was tracked correctly.
