What are the privacy implications of exporting data from Matomo Cloud to a data warehouse?
When exporting formatted raw data from Matomo Cloud to a third-party data warehouse (e.g. Google BigQuery, Snowflake), you are potentially exporting personal data to another platform.
Before you export the data, consider and address the following privacy implications of the transfer:
-
Consider which data protection laws are applicable to your visitor data set and comply with them.
For example:
(a) If required by applicable data protection regulations, make sure you have a legal basis for processing the data.
(b) Make sure the transfer is consistent with your privacy notice/policy. -
Be transparent about the transfer and inform your users where their data is going and how it will be handled.
-
Maintain confidentiality and data integrity.
-
If you are using Google BigQuery, you are potentially exporting personal data to Google. The exported data will be governed by the applicable Google terms and policies. Make sure you are aware of your obligations under the applicable Google Terms and policies.
-
If you integrate your data warehouse with other tools (e.g. Google Ads or CRM systems), review any additional privacy and consent requirements.
The use of this feature and data export is entirely optional and under your control. Matomo does not directly push data to any external platforms.
