Make a dashboard for you and your team

Bring two or three important reports and KPIs into one view that you can easily check and share. You’ll finish with: A simple dashboard showing the numbers that matter to you.

Let’s bring the numbers you care about into one place you will actually open.

A good dashboard should answer your recurring questions quickly. It does not need to show everything.

Step 1 Start from your default dashboard

Open Matomo. Your dashboard is the first screen you see when you connect to Matomo (open Dashboard in the main navigation if you are already in Matomo).

It already shows useful widgets by default, so you do not need to build one from scratch. Look at what is already there and ask: “Would I actually check this regularly?”. That is your starting point, no blank page.

Step 2 Add two or three widgets that matter to you

Add the reports or KPIs you want to keep an eye on. Click Add a widget at the top of the dashboard. A menu opens, grouped by category. Add the ones that answer your key questions.

add dashboard widget

A good starter set:

  • Goals overview to track the conversion you just created
  • Channel Types, to see where your visitors come from
  • Page Titles to see which content gets attention

That is enough to start. Drag widgets to rearrange them. To remove one, hover its top right corner and use the widget menu.

💡 Tip

Fewer, well-chosen widgets beat a crowded screen. Start small, you can add more later!

Step 3 Make it your team’s view

You can also share dashboards, schedule reports, or invite colleagues so everyone works from the same data.

For now, let’s talk about sharing your dashboard. You can copy your dashboard to a colleague so they start from your layout, not a blank screen.

To share your dashboard with a teammate, open the dashboard menu and select Copy dashboard to user. Choose the user you want to share it with, then click OK.

You can also set your dashboard to be the default dashboard for all your Matomo users.

• Share your Dashboards

• Set your default dashboard layout

Good to know

  • It updates itself. Your dashboard refreshes with live data every time you open it. No manual work.
  • You can have several. Create separate dashboards for different needs, for example one for marketing and one for content, via Manage Dashboard > Create new dashboard.
  • Make it a habit. A dashboard only helps if you open it. Checking your goal and top channels once a week is enough to spot changes early.
